one of the most topic i enjoy writing every time is guinea pigs nutrition , the amount of time that iam spending on reading cavy nutrition books and the scientific published paper on this topic is insane.
as soon as you get your guinea pis or any pet you immediately realize that you are responsible of giving hims safe food as they trust us in whatever we give them they kind of lose their wildlife instincet of what food are good or bad for them so they will anykind of food just because you offer it to them.
unless it’s really toxic that will trigger their instect or they feel something is wrong with what you give them they will enjoy whatever you feed them.
therefore we must have a clear perceprtion on what their nutritional requirment excactly are, as they can face some health compication beacuse of some treat you give thats why we dont reccomand giving any high starch sugar fat content veg or fruit canned product.
my friend made a very dangerous nutrition mistake that almost cost him his guinea pigs life as he gave hime avocado which is a big no no whenever it comes to cavy nutrition , actually the mistake that my friend did is not giving him avocado it’s about how much he gave him.
when it come to high fat content fruit as avocado we dont reccomand giving them ,as fat is among the least nutrient that guinea pigs they only need 3 to 5 of fat in their diet
back to our main uestion which is can guinea pigs eat celery and carrot ? what it diffrence between raw and cooked carrot ?
can you give caroot and celery leaves peeling stalks greens ..etc.
carrot is a root vegetables celery is not tough howether both have the perfect nutritional profile with almost every nutrient that cavy need.
guinea need carbohyrates however not any type of carbohydrate as they need specific form of carbs fiber, actually starch and sugar cen be poisonous in some cases especially for young guinea pigs.
carrot and celery both are good source of fiber especcially carrot this nutrient is crucial for guinea pigs life and overall health they literally cant survive without fiber.
fiber is imporatnt for digestion and nutrient absorbtion , it’s imprtant as a energy source for bacteria community as they feed this for proper functioning what improve gut and digestive system health.
maintening the perfect cecum ph to mantain the balance of bacterial flora in the intestine
important for bowl movement and health and get ride of waste and toxin
regulate the absortion of some compound like sugar starch and fat
fiber deficiency is a serious problems and life threatening condition digestive stagnation ( gastrointestinal statis.
calcium
it seems that the deficiency of this minerals is relatively common among guinea pigs thats why is important to feed some vegetables with cood calcium content however we dont recommand too much calcium as they can develop some bladder and kidney problems.
among some symptoms of this minerals deficiency are loss of appetite muscle spasm bone joint and skeletal problems especially in baby guinea pigs as they can suffer from deformitis if pregnant cavy suffer from a deiciency
there are also some psychological symptoms as they suffer from kind of depression state
lactating guinea pigs , stressed.
iron

is important to transport oygen into tissue cells …etc and protect them from developing anemia.
pottasium is crucial for neuromuscular syestem of heart fluid ballance heath health and nervous system.
magnesium good for bone tissue teeth the deficiency of magnesium lead to stiff lamb dental problems tissue calcification poor growth.
high phospjorus intake can lower magnesium level.
how many times a week you can give fruit to guinea pigs ? whenever it comes to fruit it all depend on many factor sugar content starch and fat , how often if this fruit have a moderate amount of this nutrient then you can give them once or twice a week only as treat.
what happen if you give fruit everyday : if you give them on a daily basis they can suffer from many health problems
diffrent colored carrot each type of carrot has more of specific nutrient than other red have more vitamin a purple have more antioidant and antiinflamatory compound.
so we do recommand to give them grated shredded fresh uncooked carrot and celery steamed and boiled release more antioixdant compound there is no diffrence between fresh or frozen or dried.
the whole carrot is safe however we dont recommand giving these parts as they have
we recommand to wash carrot skin as they can contamained with pepticides.
dont give wild carrot chanetnay carrot are okay
